Sovia Vives, a South Carolina native, became immersed in horse racing as a child while hanging out with her father, Lazaro Vives, a fomer jockey who then trained horses and for over 20 years has worked as an assistant trainer to Mark Casse based in Ocala, Fla.

She earned her first win as an apprentice jockey on Nov. 3, 2022, at Woodbine and enjoyed more success during 2023 when she won 122 races and racked up earnings of over $3.5 million.

Vives rides primarily during Woodbine’s meet and also at Parx Racing while exercising horses for Casse and others at Ocala during downtime.
